Ornaments and Figures for Nail Players

An overview of what we know works and what ideas are currently being used by nail players primarily on the wire strung, gut strung, and bray harps. Many of these ideas are presented in Edward Bunting’s notes from his observations of wire strung harpers at the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792, and still more are revealed in the Welsh manuscript of Robert ap Huw (c. 1580-1665).

Recommended for harpers who play with their fingernails, with some usefulness for nail-pad players as well.

...and I'm not a nail player, I just wandered into your workshop because I was bored. But I picked up a new ornament from you...your presentation was so simple and clear I learned it even though I was there without my harp."
